Colt Starting

Starting young horses under saddle is one of Jane's passions. Jane threads positive reinforcement into her handling and training, which yields willing horses who are happy in their work. The goal is not to frighten the horse into submission, but instead to invite the horse into a harmonious partnership with its rider. Jane has a proven track record or serving horses and riders among a wide variety of breeds and disciplines.

Restarting Off-the Track Thoroughbreds

Growing up, Jane learned to ride at a steeplechase farm and became enamored by Thoroughbred horses and the racing industry. Jane has fifteen years of experience identifying, purchasing, letting down, restarting, and marketing off-the-track Thoroughbreds (OTTBs). Whether your goal is to find the right OTTB among the thousands available every year, or to help give your Thoroughbred the best start in a new career, Eagle's Rest would love the opportunity to help.

Behavioral Issues

Finding solutions for troubled horses can be one of the most frustrating yet rewarding aspects of horse ownership. Based on feedback from the owner and observations of the horse as a whole, Jane explores underlying physical issues or trauma and creates a training plan using both positive and negative reinforcement for troubled horses. She works with the owner to recruit veterinary assistance when warranted and works hard to identify the underlying issue, not just the symptom.

I could write a book about what Jane has done for my Boutique sporthorse breeding program. My program is not your ordinary operation: instead of using the more common ingredients of various warmbloods or thoroughbreds or Irish horses, I chose to base my program on the critically endangered/nearly extinct Hackney horse.

This alone would give many talented young trainers pause—the “way” to succeed as an up-and-coming trainer is by proving you can produce competitive and successful horses. Most would not have taken a chance on a Hackney sport horse?! Jane did!

I will forever be grateful that Jane recognized SFF Ziggy Stardust as an athlete, even as a gangly coming four-year-old. The effect their success has had on my program is immeasurable!

Among the many things I love about Jane is she brings a young horse along exactly as I would. She takes the time it takes. She does not rush them. She provides them with the best most well-rounded start you could ask for! Jane took my young horses trail riding, hunter pacing, and fox hunting, and allowed to play on the beach in addition to their dressage and jumping lessons.

A foundation like this is almost unheard of these days and yet it makes for the best most happiest horse you could ask for! Speaking of happy horses, I never worry when my youngsters are in Jane’s care because I know their well-being is the most important thing to her. She is very attuned to their mental and physical needs and is quick to communicate any changes needed to ensure they are thriving.

There's no one else I would want starting or competing my horses.

Owner & Operator of Steadfast Farms

"I have known and taught Jane for many years and have watched her grow into an amazing competitor, teacher, trainer, and coach. She has an intuitive understanding of horses that enables them to feel both safe and understood, and helps give them the desire to work willingly with humans. Her lessons for all ages and levels are fun as well as informative in a manner rarely seen these days. She shares tools that impart confidence in both riders and horses, as well as the ability to understand the why as well as the how, thus teaching the ability to problem solve. I highly recommend her!"
