About Me

Native to Northeastern NC, Jane grew up traveling to Northern Virginia where she grew her riding abilities in foxhunting and junior steeplechasing. She has over fifteen years of experience retraining retired racehorses as well as experience in the equine industry regarding the pricing, marketing, and sale of eventers and fox hunters. In 2014, Jane was able to pursue her lifelong dream of Eventing with an off-the-track Thoroughbred named Gray Goose. She developed him to the Preliminary Level of eventing and has since continued to develop talented young horses with a focus on Eventing.

Jane spent five years teaching lessons and training horses full time in Tulsa Oklahoma while her husband Shuler advanced his education and career. In 2023, Jane and Shuler moved their border collie Lila, beagle mix Taco, and seven horses to Greenwood, South Carolina. In October of 2023, Jane and Shuler welcomed their daughter Violet Hannah into the world.

As a teacher, Jane instructs riders of all levels and abilities on the foundational knowledge of horsemanship, liberty training, biomechanics, showing etiquette, and jumping form. She continues to train with local and regional instructors to advance her own knowledge and bring what she learns back to her own students.

“Eagle’s Rest” was spawned with the help of some of Jane’s best coaches and mentors who recognized the value of bringing what Jane offers to one place: a place of rest. Eagles, also, have played a role in some of the most amazing moments of Jane’s life. Eagles hold symbolic meanings across biblical and secular beliefs; within the belief systems of Native American tribes, the Eagle “represents a state of grace achieved through hard work, understanding, and a completion of the tests of initiation which result in the taking of one’s personal power.” (Medicine Cards, by Jamie Sams and David Carson, 1988, 1999).

Eagle’s Rest, then, strives to be a place of hard work, grace, and ownership—yet a place of rest and respite from a world trying with all its might to distract, disempower, and delude.
